Home » Rants » That music isn't yours!

Recently I have become involved in a heated debate on a non video forum. Somebody linked to a video competition where most of the submissions were from amateurs. Many of these videos are hosted on Vimeo, which as some may know is going through a lawsuit with EMI over their rather lackluster approach to copyrighted music.

Let's just get something straight here. You might not like the law. You might think that the PRS charges too much to use commercial music. You might not think you are doing any harm by using commercial music in your video, but the simple fact is YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW. The music is not yours to do with as you please.

Some spineless morally deficient idiots out there seem to think that because their video isn't making a profit it is okay to use any old music they please. It isn't. Deal with it. If you can't afford a Ferrari buy a shopping car instead. I'd love to use Led Zep in my DVD's but I can't. It is against the law.

Still some other idiots think the law is silly and should be classed alongside other non repealed laws such as the one that says you should dismantle your car when a horse approaches. No, the law is not silly. It is there to protect the rights of the artist. If you don't like said artist because they don't allow you to trample all over their copyright, tough, find another music artist to support.
