I had an inkling this was going to happen as I mentioned in my articles about the Glidecam X-22 on this very website. But Tiffen have now announced their replacement for the Flyer LE, the Zephyr.
From the specs the device can hold a camera weight of 20lbs, and the arm has a lifting capacity of 30lbs, so I'm assuming that the sled weighs around 10lbs. The post is made from carbon fibre, and has a D-box at the base and a J-box on the top stage with Lemo power connectivity.
There is an optional second battery mount, and I'm told an optional motorised top stage! Like the Flyer LE the rig is 12 and 24v capable. Dynamic balance adjustment looks to be a huge improvement over the Flyer LE, with both the battery and monitor sections being rod mounted. The Zephyr is also compatible with the inertia weights from the Pilot.
Am I drooling? Oh yes! If they have improved the arm over the Flyer LE, something which was close to perfection to begin with, then this is going to be one heck of a sought after system. I suspect you might be able to find a very good price on used Flyers when it takes foothold in the market too!
I can't wait to get my hands on one.
