Video has been behind stills in more ways than one when it comes to editing the picture. New software algorythms show how video can now have some incredible editing applied.
The techniques, developed by the University of Washington, uses stills photos taken at the time of shooting to be able to perform a myriad of incredible operations such as correcting exposure, recovering highlights, object isolation and removal, image stabilisation the ability to zoom in on video with no loss of resolution and a whole lot more.
The technique relies on the fact that photos from a camera like a DSLR contains much more detail, resolution, and dynamic range than any current video camera. This information is used and compared to the video to enable the effects. The result is, quite literally, jaw dropping.
