It was always known that the PMW-EX1 would be the first in a series of cameras. Now Sony are living up to that and have announce the new PMW-EX3, an interchangable lens camcorder.
The EX3 is very similar to Canons XLH1, although I am told that the built in shoulder brace on the former has some innovative tricks up its sleeve. That huge viewfinder by the way is mounted on top of the 3.5" LCD screen, so you can imagine how good that should be to use! The LCD on the EX1 was exceptionally good, so the addition of a viewfinder port on it should make for some solid focussing abilities.
Aside from a few extra bits and bobs such as timecode and genlock, and the ability to adjust the frame rate using a control on the side of the camera, the EX3 is identical to the EX1 in terms of specification.
1/2" XDCAM HD lenses will fit to this camera with an adaptor, and I am told that there may be a Letus Extreme that will fit directly onto the lens mount. That ladies and gentlemen would be a very nice thing to have indeed.
