Have you checked if 'black' is 'black' with your EX images? If not you may need an IR filter. Schneider Optics has introduced the TRU-CUT IR-750 filter, designed to eliminate light in the infrared (IR) spectrum before it reaches an HD camera’s sensors. Most HD cameras have a high sensitivity to light in the IR spectrum, and though the IR light is not visible to the human eye, it can result in odd color shifts and prevent a camera’s imagers from capturing true black tones. As digital videographers use multi-stop neutral-density (ND) filters to allow them to open their lens iris for more depth of field, IR light begins to dominate light from the visible spectrum, making its pollution more apparent. Schneider developed its TRU-CUT IR-750 filter to remove the IR spectrum from the light path, resulting in more vibrant colors and true black tones from both CCD and CMOS sensors. The TRU-CUT IR filter blocks the IR light mere nanometers from the visible spectrum, cutting IR pollution from the image. For more information www.schneideroptics.com.

This must be both Sony's and Pana's ongoing nightmare - with the announcement of the RED Epic and Scarlet Pro. Mike Curtis gives a pretty good run down of the new cameras on the PRO VIDEO COALITION site. You have to remember the RED One has taken nearly three years to the point where it is today - so it is with guarded optimism to believe that some of these new cameras are being touted for release in the northern summer of 2009. It is going to be an interesting 9 months before the birth of the Scarlet and Epic - I'm just wondering what the 'big guns' will unleash from their R and D teams to counter the attack. Comments can be made on the FORUM.

SONY UNVEILS 1080i HIGH-DEFINITION COMPACT POV CAMCORDER FOR PROFESSIONAL VIDEO APPLICATIONS - EXPECTED FOR RELEASE FEB 09. November 5, 2008 Source: Sony of Canada
Sony of Canada Ltd., Canada’s leading electronic and computer products solutions provider for consumers and business is introducing a new full high-definition compact point-of-view (POV) camera, model HXR-MC1. Its unique design separates the camera head from the control unit, giving professional users more flexibility to capture shots in video applications where increased mobility is required beyond the use of traditional hand-held or shoulder-mount cameras, such as extreme sports, reality TV, documentaries, nature, wildlife and more.
The new camera achieves its balance of compact size, light weight and superb image quality through a design and recording format similar to Sony’s consumer camcorders. The HXR-MC1 records up to six hours of content onto a 16GB Memory Stick PRO™ media using AVCHD compression, which is an MPEG long GOP codec already used in consumer video products.

Singaporean cameraman Derek Yeo takes us on a tour of his favourite toy shop Expandore Electronics. Now this may look like a 9 minute commercial but it does show you what's around for the EX cameras. Yep, I reckon there's a Derek in all of us!

SxS Driver Conflict With New MBPros 28/10/08 There is a conflict with the SxS Driver when installed in the newly released Macbook Pros. When installed it takes anywhere from 4 to 7 minutes for the MBP to boot up and the trackpad looses some of its features. Apparently Sony is aware of the problem and working on an update. A workaround is to use the Sony Express SxS Card Reader via the USB input. Mal
